We’ll start off with Black Flag. This insecticide is the number one choice for many people because of its unique formula and low price tag ($13). It’s easy to find in most stores, such as Walmart or Target.
You can also buy it online from Amazon.com at a discounted rate if you’re not able to find it locally on your next shopping trip (but don’t use this method if you live near an area that has been recently flooded!). The only downside about this product is that while it smells nice, some people might have issues with how strong the scent can be. But if it doesn’t bother you too much, then there should be no problem!
Now we will talk about Raid Spray – which is the number one choice for many people. This product has a very strong scent, which can be good or bad depending on your preference. You might want to do some research before you buy this product as there are various different types of Raid spray out in the world – and they all have their own pros and cons!
The first type is “Raid Ant & Roach Killer” by Clorox, which is designed specifically to kill ants, roaches, etc. But if you’re looking more for something that will work quickly then you should look at our second ingredient: “Raid Max Bug Guard Plus.” With a powerful formula like this one (and an improved smell!) it’s no wonder why so many people swear by it!
Black Flag Insecticide Review
If you are looking for a chemical that will work great on roaches, ants, and other bugs with hard exoskeletons but has limited appeal to humans, then Black Flag is your best bet. It contains Pyrethrum which kills by attacking the central nervous system of insects. Ironically it also can act as an insect repellent if used lightly enough!
Black Flag bug spray is the classic, old-timey remedy for bugs. It has some advantages and disadvantages that are worth considering before you buy it as your go-to solution. One advantage of Black Flag over other brands is its no-rinse formula which is great if you have a black car like me because I don’t want to worry about water spots or anything else damaging my vehicle’s exterior! (Although this may be more relevant in the summer when it’s not cold out.)
Another thing people might find attractive about this product is that there isn’t any smell associated with using it. You won’t need to deal with an unpleasant odor while trying to get rid of bugs from your home or vehicle. On the flip side, it’s not as potent as some of the other brands I found and you may need to spray more than once for good coverage.

Pyrethrum: This is a natural insecticide extracted from the Chrysanthemum plant. It has several modes of action, attacking insects on contact and through ingestion as well as inhalation. Pyrethrum also acts as an insect repellent when used in low concentrations!
Permethrin: A synthetic pyrethroid that functions by interfering with cholinesterase production and inhibition of acetylcholine esterase activity which causes death to bugs over time after absorption into their body systems.
Active ingredients of black flag spray is Deltamethrin 0.32%, Other Ingredients: 99.68%. On the other hand raid sprays active ingredients is Cyclopropanecarboxylate 0.40%, N-octyl Bicycloheptene Dicarboximide 1.00%, Imidacloprid 0.05%, Other Ingredients 98.55%.
In this section we are going to talk about which pest those two product can kills. Black Flag Spray Kills 47 Listed Insects Including Cockroach, Fleas, Bug, Termites And More.
Raid spray can Kills a wide variety of insects including cockroaches, ants, silverfish, crickets, earwigs, household spiders, multicolored Asian lady beetles and stinkbugs.
How it Kill Insect
Both products kill insects by suffocating them. Black Flag’s active ingredients are cypermethrin and d-phenothrin, while Raid contains pyrethrins and permethrin. Pyrethrins enter an insect through breathing or the skin, then bind to cells on the surface of their nervous system and paralyze them (because they can’t breathe).
Permethrine binds to nerve receptors in insects’ muscles like a key fitting into its lock – which disrupts normal muscle function so that nerves signal contractions but cannot relax again. The result is paralysis of all body functions until death occurs from lack of oxygen due to respiratory failure.
How To Use Pest Spray
The can should be shaken before use and sprayed in short bursts, about 12 inches away from the bug or insect. It is not necessary to coat every surface with spray because it will kill them on contact.
Now that you have a better idea of the difference between Raid and Black Flag, which one do you think is best to kill bugs? Personally I use both products. One for my house, like getting rid of ants in the kitchen or spiders around windows and another product outside on our deck because there are so many bugs right now.
However if we were going camping somewhere with no electricity I would take only black flag since it has an insecticide spray as well as attractant lure. I hope this was helpful! Stay tuned for more blog posts about different pest control methods coming soon!
