Cyzmic CS Vs Talstar P Insecticide

The main difference between Cyzmic CS and Talstar P insecticide is their formulation. Cyzmic CS is a micro-encapsulated insecticide, meaning that the active ingredient is surrounded by a protective capsule that helps it to last longer and be more resistant to harsh weather conditions.

Talstar P, on the other hand, is a non-encapsulated insecticide, meaning that the active ingredient is not protected and can break down more quickly. This makes Talstar P a less effective choice for long-term pest control, but it may be a better option for quickly killing a large number of pests.

How It Works

Cyzmic CS insecticide contains lambda-cyhalothrin, a synthetic pyrethroid that disrupts an insect’s nervous system, leading to paralysis and death. It does not provide quick knockdown but has residual activity.

Talstar Professional also works by disrupting an insect’s nervous system through contact. It contains bifenthrin, and while not an instant knockdown, Talstar P has residual effects for the ongoing control of pests.

Active Ingredients

The active ingredient in Talstar P is bifenthrin at a concentration of 7.9%. Bifenthrin is a pyrethroid insecticide. Cyzmic CS contains the active ingredient lambda-cyhalothrin at 9.7%.

Lambda-cyhalothrin is also a pyrethroid insecticide and works similarly to bifenthrin but at a higher concentration in Cyzmic CS.

Mixing Ratio

An advantage of Talstar P is the flexibility in mixing ratios, from 0.5 to 1 oz per gallon of water depending on pest pressure, covering around 1,000 sq ft per gallon.

Cyzmic CS has a more narrow recommended mixing ratio of 0.2 to 0.4 oz per gallon, also covering 1,000 square feet per gallon mixed. The variable rate of Talstar P allows for tailoring the concentration as needed.

Target Pest

Talstar P controls over 75 pests, including mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, bed bugs, cockroaches, scorpions, and spiders. Cyzmic CS is also effective against a wide array of insects, such as bed bugs, ants, beetles, mosquitoes, flies, and bees.

The pests controlled are very similar between the two products given the similar mode of action of bifenthrin and lambda-cyhalothrin.

Application Sites

Both products can be used in various commercial, residential, and agricultural sites. Talstar P can be applied indoors and outdoors including lawns, ornamental gardens, parks, and indoor cracks and crevices.

Cyzmic CS also has indoor and outdoor labeling for building perimeters, kennels, greenhouses, lawns, and recreational areas.

Residual Activity

One advantage of Talstar P is the long residual activity lasting up to 3 months for some pests. Cyzmic CS also provides extended residual control with maintained effectiveness for up to 90 days. The micro-encapsulated formulation helps extend the residual activity.

Odor & Staining

Talstar P is considered low odor and does not leave visible residues or stains after application. Cyzmic CS is also described as having a low odor.

While it does not specifically indicate staining, as a microencapsulated product, it is designed not to leave residues, given the active ingredient is encapsulated.

Availability

Talstar P comes in various container sizes, including quart, pint, 64 oz, and 128 oz containers. Cyzmic CS is available in smaller container sizes of 8 oz bottles and 32 oz quart bottles.

The Talstar P larger containers make it more ideal for large-scale commercial applications, while Cyzmic CS smaller sizes may be more suitable for small-scale and residential use.

Pet Safety

Both Talstar P and Cyzmic CS are considered safe for use around pets when applied according to the label directions.

It is still recommended to keep pets away during application until the product has dried. The products have a low toxicity profile for mammals, but ingestion should be avoided, so reading the label for proper application is important.

Special Effects

Talstar P is ideal for flexible rate application, long residual control, and low staining and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Cyzmic CS offers long-lasting control through its microencapsulated formula with reduced environmental degradation and has a broad label for commercial and residential sites.

Our Observation
Both Cyzmic CS and Talstar P offer effective residual control of a broad spectrum of insects. Talstar P flexible labeling allows for customized application rates, making it a good choice for heavy pest infestations.

However, the Cyzmic CS microencapsulated formula provides longer-lasting activity even in harsh environmental conditions.

While both products have benefits, the extended residual activity and encapsulated formulation of Cyzmic CS give it an advantage in providing durable insect control. Overall, Cyzmic CS is a top recommendation for long-term protection from pests in outdoor areas.
